UK Screen
A huge network of film makers, actors, musicians, production companies and talent agents, with power search engines, CV?s, showreels, job forums and streaming films and music. It now offers an annual award of £1000 for the best short film.
3 Minute Wonder
What it is: A documentary shorts strand that follows Channel 4 News on weekdays. It provides an opportunity for directors who have not previously worked for Channel 4, directors who wish to cross genres and first time directors and assistant producers. The competition is open to anyone with clever and intriguing stories that have a new and surprising way of reflecting who we are today. Films should be engaging and inventive in form and can be about any subject, but must be suitable for pre-watershed transmission.
What you get: A fixed budget of £4,000 per episode and the support of Channel 4 in making your 3-minute documentary.
Then what? With screenings at 7.55pm, this slot enables new talent to show their ideas to millions and take risks at the heart of the primetime schedule. There´s no commitment to commission any more documentaries from you, but it is sure to provide a fantastic springboard - and portfolio filler - for the future. Influential writer, broadcaster and cultural critic Sarfraz Manzoor began his media career at Channel 4 and got his first taste of presenting when he was given four 3 Minute Wonder slots. "The best part of making these short films was the creative freedom I was given," he says. "The journey from the original idea to the broadcast films was refreshingly short and it was a good example of how the channel is able to give a break to people they have faith in."
Deadline: There is no current deadline for submissions. Films will be commissioned on a rolling basis over the coming months.
Make Your Mark in Film
Make Your Mark in Film with CobraVision has launched a nationwide hunt for top screenwriting talent, with £3,000 up for grabs.
The competition was launched at the Edinburgh Film Festival by Nik Powell, Director of the National Film and Television School, who said "This competition is a tremendous opportunity for established or budding young scriptwriters to make their mark in the film industry. In its later stages this unique project will also give aspiring directors, producers and crew a chance to showcase their talents.
"The Make Your mark campaign aims to encourage young people to be more enterprising - to turn their own ideas into reality. To do this, it is important that we tap into their own areas of interest. This competition aims to inspire them to make their ideas happen through film."
We´re looking for 10 episodes of 5 minutes each with the general theme of having an idea and making it happen. If you think you´ve got what it takes to hit the big screen then download the brief and rules and get writing
Closing Entry: Friday 15th December.

To launch the competition we asked some key people from the exhibition and campaign who had inspired them. To enter the competition, upload a photograph of the person who has most inspired you, together with a short description of why and how they achieved this right here.
