WELCOME TO HARDCORE IS MORE THAN MUSIC! We are a social enterprise that works with young people aged 13-21 from innercity London. Over the past five years we have built up a lot of experience working on estates and in youthcentres with those young people who want to have a career in the arts and break into music, fashion and publishing.
Even though these young people are some of the very most talented in the country it is still hard for them to gain access to the creative industries; to get jobs and network with the right people and to avoid exploitation. Through our quarterly magazine HARDCORE IS MORE THAN MUSIC MAGAZINE; largescale music events and workshops (see PROJECTS) a?nd by bringing the top artists, filmmakers and musicians IN THE WORLD in to collaborate on ambitious projects with the young people we hope to get them jobs, platform explosive talents and boost the regeneration of whole areas of the innercity. From Prime minister TONY BLAIR to rap mogul RUSSELL SIMMONS to Turner Prize-winning artist JEREMY DELLER :our unique approach has been praised and we our proud of our multi-award winning record. You may have seen our GUARDIAN supplement in 2004 on young people: over a million were circulated in Britain.

ASHER D said at our TATE BRITAIN event (see PROJECTS) that the stereotype of black young people is ?out of hand?. It seems that most of the stories you hear in the newspapers are about violence, guncrime or drug culture. Even the films and TV programmes that depict life in the innercity give an incredibly inaccurate and negative portrayal of young people. Our experience is different, we could have never imagined such a culture of entrepreneurship: so many young people creating their own small businesses and arts ventures; the wild sense of humour (which is both hilarious and free from cynacism) and an openess and warmth which deserves to be celebrated.
